Labret piercing

Labret piercing jewellery with a flat back

A labret piercing can mean the placement below the lower lip, but “labret” also names the straight jewellery with a flat disc at one end and a removable decorative front at the other. That construction is used in lip piercings and in established ear placements such as helix, tragus, conch and flat.

BY CARA's range includes titanium labrets in gold-tone and silver-tone finishes. Gold-tone designs have an 18K or PVD coating. The pieces are waterproof and nickel-free, while exact material and finish remain listed on each product page.

Measure from the disc to the front

Labret fit is defined by shaft thickness and wearable length. Many models are 1.2 mm thick and come in lengths such as 6 or 8 mm. Length is measured along the shaft between the flat disc and the decorative front; the front itself is not included.

A shorter bar is not automatically better. Tissue depth and piercing angle vary, and a lip placement may need different space from a healed helix. Compare with a well-fitting current labret or ask a professional piercer to measure the channel.

Build the look from one small front

A plain ball makes the placement clean and geometric. Clear or coloured stones add a point of light, while stars, hearts and other motifs give an ear composition a focal detail. Gold tone creates a warm line through an ear stack; silver tone keeps the palette cooler. Selected real-silver jewellery exists elsewhere in the range, but a silver-coloured labret should not be assumed to be solid silver: use its product specification.

  • Flat-back labrets for compatible healed placements
  • Options in 1.2 mm thickness
  • Lengths including 6 and 8 mm
  • Plain, stone-set and shaped fronts
  • Waterproof and nickel-free designs

A vertical labret is a different piercing configuration and normally uses a curved bar with two visible ends. Do not select a flat-back labret for it without professional confirmation. New or irritated piercings also require individual advice before jewellery is changed. Browse the collection and find the design that suits you.

Labret jewellery FAQ

What is a labret stud?

It is a straight piece with a flat disc at the back and a removable front, used in compatible lip and ear piercings.

Can I use a labret in my ear?

Many healed helix, tragus, conch and flat placements use labrets. Thickness and length must match the specific piercing.

Should I choose 6 or 8 mm?

Measure a current well-fitting shaft from the flat disc to the front, or have the placement measured professionally.

Is a vertical labret the same jewellery?

No. A vertical lip placement commonly uses a curved bar, whereas this category focuses on straight flat-back labrets.

Are silver-tone labrets real silver?

Not necessarily. Colour and material are separate properties, so check the material stated for the individual product.
